Martha Stewart’s Tofu Fries

I’m a big fan of Martha Stewart and have been for a very long time. Years ago when Martha Stewart had her television show, I would tape all her shows and then watch them later after I came home from work.   I loved her cooking recipes and gardening tips, and just her entire outlook on healthy wholesome living.  I even had a subscription to her magazine Martha Stewart Living that was a great resource for seasonal recipes, seasonal gardening, homemade gifts and crafts, and local stories of interest from all parts of America. She was ahead of her time that’s for sure.

Fifteen years ago when Martha Stewart was at her peak popularity, she was telling us to do all the things that are in vogue now – eat quality food, don’t go for processed anything, whenever possible support your local farmers, buy small batch hand-crafted foods and home goods to support family owned businesses, buy good wholesome ingredients no matter what you are cooking – it’s good for the body.  All the stuff that we hear about today, what we read in magazines and see in the evening news, web stories, all the new research – everything points towards what Martha Stewart was promoting and talking about over a decade ago.

Unfortunately for her, she got a lot of backlash for her philosophy back then, people were complaining that it wasn’t practical to eat good food, that it was cost-prohibitive.  But Martha didn’t budge on her philosophy.  She insisted it is possible to eat healthy; compromise on that soda she said, or that bag of chips or the fast food; save that money for buying some good quality cheese, or some home-made artisanal jam, or free range chicken.  She never waivered on her philosophy.  And it looks like now; finally, the rest of America has caught on.

Tofu fries was something I saw on one of Martha Stewart’s TV shows.  The episode was focused on how to make healthy kid friendly snacks.  Tofu fries was one of her creations.  I made it right away and it was an instant hit in our home! Everyone loved it.  In fact, they came a time when the kids wanted it every day after school.  I have been making these tofu fries for years now.  If you are looking for an alternative to regular French fries, try these tofu fries. It’s healthy and delicious. You can dip them in ketchup or soy sauce or any sauce you like just like you would regular French fries.  There are many variations of tofu fries now available on the web, here I have chosen to share with you the one that I remember Martha Stewart came up with over a decade ago, here is her recipe.
