I love farmer’s market veggies, so naturally when I received this message from my friend Rita last week “Hi, I have some extra spinach, dill, chard, turnips, arugula and Tuscan kale from my farmer’s market friend. Would you ladies want some?” “Delivery included đ. Which would you like, some of each? How could my answer for farm fresh veggies delivered to our door be anything but a resounding, “YES, PLEASE. Thank you so much!” My friend Rose requested a combo of spinach, chard, arugula and kale. I asked for all of it! Rita’s response was “Ok I’ll drop them off at both your porches tomorrow afternoon. You’re welcome!”
I shared some greens with my friend Devi and used the rest to make a bunch of greens-inspired dishes. I made a kale pasta, a spinach and potato curry, a Swiss chard and paneer curry, arugula and mushroom pizza, and I used the turnips in a winter vegetable pasta primavera.

đ Thanks Stella. The dress is one that Rani our resident fashionista made me buy. She insisted I get it, in hindsight it was a good purchase. The boots, well do you remember I mentioned one time when we met for lunch that boots are my new winter accessory – they make any outfit look trendy đ.
Leaving bags of apricots or prunes on porches was traditional decades ago when the orchards were still here. The tradition included backyard fruit trees too, especially those that were too productive, like persimmon!
Wow, I had no idea about the tradition of leaving fruits on front porches! Now I understand why my neighbor who is a native Los Gatos resident – his father started the West Valley Waste Company! leaves baskets of summer veggies and fruits on our front porch all summer long! I am assuming he is continuing this lovely tradition you mentioned đ.
With persimmons, I had to leave the bags fast before anyone saw me and made me take them away. There were too many of them, and not one wanted to be stuck with them.
That is hilarious đ. Persimmons are so coveted these days that I am sure everyone will be clamoring for them today đ
Yes, they are popular now; but back then, we did not know what to do with them.
