Marvelous May in the Garden. Roses in Bloom

May has been a spectacular month here in the Bay Area for our gardens. The weather has been a perfect spring like temperatures and the gardens are just loving it. Flowers are blooming everywhere; it’s practically flower overload! Roses are especially loving our cool temperatures. Here is a look at my marvelous May garden featuring roses in bloom.

Roses, roses, roses.

It is definitely rose season here in May.  Roses have been putting on a spectacular show and I can’t stop taking pictures of these glorious flowers.

It may seem that all I have blooming are roses right now but my garden is bursting with so much more, each flowering plant more beautiful than the next.  Plants such as astromeria, bearded iris, geraniums, carnations (dianthus), dahlias, begonias and even amaryllis and more freesias! May in the garden has been marvelous!

  1. Ours are doing well too, even in the partial shade. They are on finishing their second phase. I am not so keen on the carpet roses. They are a bit too cheap for me, and I do not know how to work with them. I can not get used to the idea of just shearing them.

    1. Thank you ! Ross love our dry mild weather. Warm in the day with a cool ocean breeze and cool at nigth and very little humidity – roses love this type of weather. I have noticed when the weather is more humid and warm I too get the black spot and have to spray.

      1. My roses in NC are so needy. I wish I did not have them. One has been in my husband’s family for decades, so I try to keep it healthy. I love how happy yours look.

        1. Unfortunately roses dont like hot and humid climates much and need a lot more care in those conditions. It helps that in our area our days are warm and dry and nights are cool, and mostly our temps rarely get about 80s, we really do have perfect conditions for roses requiring minimal spraying. A family rose that you have for decades? How cool!
