July in the garden. Lillies, dahlias and other stuff.

July arrived with a big bang of summer heat in our area.  Temperatures went up into the 80s and even in the high 90s.  But surprisingly my garden held up well, I only guess it’s because of all the giant trees in our garden that provide welcome shade to plants and people alike. The summer heat enticed all my lilies and dahlias to burst into bloom. I did have lots of other perennials blooming but my eyes and camera kept gravitating towards dahlias and lilies. When lilies and dahlias are in bloom it’s hard to focus on anything else – sorry other beautiful perennials.  Here is a look at how my garden did in July.

And lastly, our little owl in the courtyard is back! He left for a couple of months and I really wanted to show the owl to my little neices when they were here. Well, he came back in end of July 😊.

  1. Surprisingly not as much water as one would think. We definitely live in a microclimate pocket where I am. Lots of shade, lots of mature trees, very breezy, and cooler than surrounding area. Flowers love it here.

  2. Hi Kalpana, thanks for sharing. I absolutely LOVE oriental lillies/stargazers. My all time favorite flowers for sure. Maybe I should learn to grow them🤔. You’ve inspired me. ❤️💐🙏

    1. I will remember to pick up some star gazer lilly bulbs when they become available in the early spring. Lillies are by far the easiest flowers to grow! You dont even have to rely on William to grow these lilies 😀. I will show you how to grow them successfully when the time comes!

    1. OMG I know those dahlias are just stunning! I only posted a few pictures here, I will be posting another blog with more photos of just dahlias! They are my favorite summer flower!

  3. Dolly , what an affectionate and lovely Athai, Kiran’s Twins have in You. I am sure they learn learn a lot from you including your Love for flowers and Gardening .

    1. Thank you Vinatha Mami. Kiran’s twins seem to really enjoy my garden, they wanted to make a bouquet every day 😀💐. I do hope they remember Dolly Athai as their garden and nature loving aunty 😊
