Sea-to-Sky Highway. BC Hwy 99

The town of Whistler is located in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia and is two hours north of Vancouver. BC highway 99 that goes through the mountains to Whistler is called Sea-to-Sky Highway and is a beautiful scenic drive with the ocean to one side and the majestic mountains on the other. The town of Whistler is a popular ski resort that is as popular in the summer for it’s gorgeous scenery and summer activities such as hiking, rock-climbing, kayaking and more. We were heading to Whistler on the Sea-to-Sky Highway more for the scenic road trip than the destination. With stops on the way to see beautiful waterfalls and to ride on a gondola to the top of the mountains, the Sea-to-Sky Highway was a gorgeous scenic drive.

The Coast Mountains of British Columbia are truly surreal to look at. They reminded Hitesh and I of Japanese paintings with hazy majestic mountains all lined up in succession.

Shannon Falls Provincial Park, Squamish, BC Canada

Our first stop on the Sea-to-Sky Highway was at Shannon Falls Provincial Park. Here visitors can see the beautiful Shannon Falls cascading down the mountain which is British Columbia’s third tallest waterfall.

Visitors can follow the water of Shannon Falls as it flows down and runs into a stream through rocks and boulders. A few adventurous visitors can even climb on the boulders as they try to trek up toward the waterfall.

Sea to Sky Gondola Ride.

At Shannon Falls Park is where visitors can ride the Sea to Sky Gondola that glides over the mountain from the base of the park up to the top of the mountain. The views of the sea and sky on this gondola ride are amazing.

Our final destination on this road trip was the town of Whistler where we had a coffee break and walked in the village shopping district.

Sunset Drive Back Home

We drove back to Vancouver in the evening around sunset which gave us some amazing photo ops of the Sea-to-Sky Highway in a different light.

    1. Welcome back Swati! You know we had bad luck with the haze from over 564 woldfires burning in British Columbia and all the smoke ended up in Whistler. By the time we got there the town was covered in haze, we couldn’t see much. We are planning on going back!!

  1. I cannot get over these pictures- It is hard to believe this beauty even exists in nature- I would love love love to visit. Vancouver is high up on my bucket list. Your family is just so beautiful too. What an amazing trip!

    1. Thank you! We did have a great time. I agree, it is hard to believe there is such natural beauty in the world. Sadly even here locals were telling us stories of how they have to constanly fight off the logging, fishing, and mining industry and how its a constant battle to save all their natural reseources.
