November in the Garden

November in the garden was an interesting one for us here in the Bay Area.  We had days of warm weather, followed by chilly temperatures in the 30s, 40, 50s and 60s, followed by ten days of the worst air quality caused by the California wildfires, followed by rain and sunny clear skies.  Despite our rollercoaster of a weather ride, the garden faired really well.

Our poplar trees are continuing to drop their leaves – in slow motion no less!! The leaf dropping goes on for three months!!  THREE MONTHS OF FALLING LEAVES 🍂🍂🍂!!!

My Japanese maple trees are putting on a fabulous fall-color of natural fireworks this year. Their colors are just spectacular!

Picked the last of my roses for the year and made a couple of bouquets to enjoy indoors.

Dahlias are exhausted and finally wound down for the season. I cut their stalks down and mulched the dahlia bed for the winter.

Hydrangeas are turning a rosy pink, hopefully they will turn a ruby red just in time for the holidays!

Made a fall-birthday basket for a good friend with a variety of scented geranium cuttings and a little sage plant.

I am now looking forward to potting up a few amaryllis, purchasing a couple of poinsettieas, and making some red and white cyclamen potted arrangements to enjoy over the holidays.

Hope you had a marvelous November.
Looking forward to a delightful December! 🌲🎄🎁

  1. You have captured the nature’s beauty very well! Love the yellow leaves on the ground. Looks like gold carpet!

  2. Such beautiful photos!! I feel like the Bay area always has a delayed autumn each year, but I am just loving the gorgeous falling/changing leaves right now too! The birthday basket you made is absolutely adorable. Love that! have a wonderful rest of this beautiful weekend, Kalpana!!!

    1. Thank you Mackenzie. We do have a very late autumn – almost into December 😀. This year our autumn colors are especially spectaciular – but I say that every year 😀. Thank you , I’m so glad you liked the little birthday basket, I almost kept it for myself 😃😀

  3. Those cottonwoods are so RAD! Ours are not quite so yellow, although they are more yellow than they normally are. Some of the leaves are falling while green. I will be showing off some autumn color in about five hours at midnight, and again next Saturday morning.
