Warm Apple Ginger Cider

Warm apple ginger cider is a cider that is served during the winter months at our local bakery Manresa Bread here in Los Gatos, California. Their hot apple cider has to be my daughter Anjali’s all-time favorite drink.

Any time Hitesh stops by the bakery  he comes home with Manresa’s apple ginger cider for her. She could drink it all year long if only Manresa would sell it all-year round. But alas it is only available in the winter months. So what does Anjali do the rest of the year when she craves apple ginger cider? I make it at home. With warming fresh ginger, slices of fresh orange, and sweet cinnamon  – apple ginger cider is the perfect drink on a cool afternoon at any time of the year.  Give it a try!

Warm Apple Ginger Cider
makes 4 mugs

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all natural apple juice
  • 3 inch piece of ginger skin removed and finely grated or minced
  • 2 slices of orange from one half orange and 2 more slices for garnish
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • A few whole cloves if you like

Directions:

  • Add all the ingredients in a pot and warm through until the apple cider comes to a low boil.

  • Strain the cider into mugs and garnish with orange slice before serving.

Cook’s Notes: Adjust the ginger and orange slices according to your taste. Add more or less ginger depending on how “spicy” you want the cider.  Orange slices melow out the sweetness of the apple juice. We noticed that without the orange slices the apple cider can be a little too sweet.

      1. You know, I have not been downtown since Gilley’s closed. I do not want to know what is happening there yet. When I picked up my mail on Sunday, I drove ‘around’ downtown to get to the other side.

  1. Kalps !!!! i love this version of Apple Cider Ginger !!!! This is a great Diet Tip for a long standing diabetic when One blends Apples with Orange juice and Ginger and not to forget Cinnamon.. It suppresses appetite in a natural fashion and helps Glycemic Control . I add a little turmeric too. A wonderful Drink for Weight loss too .

      1. Kalps, The Golden Milk – A drink my mom used to make for us when we were kids during Delhi’s harsh Winter months. She used to warm a cup of Milk and add fresh Powdered Turmeric along with some ground Cinnamon/Cloves and a teeny weeny spoon of Honey … Great for preventing Coughs/Colds.

    1. It really is a simple recipe with delicious results. Grated ginger adds a lot of flavor and the orange slices give a hint of oange flavor and also mellows out the sweetness of the apple juice.I hope you like it.
