Christmas Sugar Cookies

Oh my gosh, what is it about Christmas sugar cookies that makes them a must have over the holidays?  Maybe it’s the vibrancy of the beautifully decorated cookies or maybe it’s all that sweetness in each and every piece.  Strangely, I haven’t been a fan of sugar cookies, I’ve always found them too sweet, but the temptation of these gorgeous cookies always gets the better of me.

Here is a recipe for sugar cookies that I actually enjoyed eating this year. The Softest Sugar Cookies Ever by Julie Klink.  My daughter Sri made these Christmas sugar cookies for Anjali’s class holiday party.  Sri begged me to try one and I reluctantly agreed. What was a surprise with this recipe is how “not too sweet” they were.  The reason for these Christmas cookies tasting so good and looking so good too is that the cookie itself is made with sour cream and is very low in sugar – the sweetness comes from the icing, making these cookies a delicious and gorgeous cookie that anyone will enjoy – including me!

Sri wanted me to mention that there is a reason Christmas sugar cookies are not cheap. It takes a long time and a lot of effort to make these delectable cookies. Make the dough, chill the dough, roll the dough, cut into shapes, bake, cool, make the icing, color the icing, carefully decorate each cookie, and then sprinkle with edible sugar glitter. Phew!!  This sure is a lengthy process – but hey what’s a holiday without Christmas sugar cookies 🍪🎄🎄?  Here are a few pictures of Sri and Anjali’s sugar cookie making adventure.
