Sea-to-Sky Highway. BC Hwy 99

The town of Whistler is located in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia and is two hours north of Vancouver. BC highway 99 that goes through the mountains to Whistler is called Sea-to-Sky Highway and is a beautiful scenic drive with the ocean to one side and the majestic mountains on the other. The town of Whistler is a popular ski resort that is as popular in the summer for it’s gorgeous scenery and summer activities such as hiking, rock-climbing, kayaking and more. We were heading to Whistler on the Sea-to-Sky Highway more for the scenic road trip than the destination. With stops on the way to see beautiful waterfalls and to ride on a gondola to the top of the mountains, the Sea-to-Sky Highway was a gorgeous scenic drive.

The Coast Mountains of British Columbia are truly surreal to look at. They reminded Hitesh and I of Japanese paintings with hazy majestic mountains all lined up in succession.

Shannon Falls Provincial Park, Squamish, BC Canada

Our first stop on the Sea-to-Sky Highway was at Shannon Falls Provincial Park. Here visitors can see the beautiful Shannon Falls cascading down the mountain which is British Columbia’s third tallest waterfall.

Visitors can follow the water of Shannon Falls as it flows down and runs into a stream through rocks and boulders. A few adventurous visitors can even climb on the boulders as they try to trek up toward the waterfall.

Made it a fraction of the way up!

Still more to go …

Finally made it to the branch over the stream.

What goes up must come down.

Sea to Sky Gondola Ride.

At Shannon Falls Park is where visitors can ride the Sea to Sky Gondola that glides over the mountain from the base of the park up to the top of the mountain. The views of the sea and sky on this gondola ride are amazing.

Majestic mountains and sea below look stunning from way up in the clouds.

Having a good time on the gondola ride.

At the top of the mountain is an awesome cafe where one can grab a light lunch with the views of the mountains and ocean below.

The best part of reaching the top is a walk across this suspension bridge. Absolutely gorgeous the scenery was from up here!

Our gondola ride back down.

Brandywine Falls Provincial Park. British Columbia

Our next stop on the Sea-to-Sky Highway was at Brandywine Falls Provincial Park.  Here the falls can be viewed from the top of the waterfall.

This is a gorgeous waterfall with views of the quentessential British Columbia scenery of smoky green mountains and redwoods.

Whistler

Our final destination on this road trip was the town of Whistler where we had a coffee break and walked in the village shopping district.

Sunset Drive Back Home

We drove back to Vancouver in the evening around sunset which gave us some amazing photo ops of the Sea-to-Sky Highway in a different light.

We drove past gushing pristine waters of streams and rivers and couldn’t resist pulling off the road to take a few pictures.

The majestic mountains, the waterfalls, the streams, the ocean, and redwoods all coming together in one magical place. This was one beautiful scenic drive on British Columbia’s Sea-to-Sky Highway. This road trip is worth making multiple times and a must see when visiting Vancouver, Canada.
