September in the Garden

Hello and a good Monday to you all! How have you been? I hope you are all staying safe and well. Let me start off the week with some of the cheerful, colorful pictures I took of the garden.

I know I’ve been quiet for a while. I was in a bit of a funk. Between COVID the hot topic on the news daily, not being able to see friends and family, and the wildfires that ravaged our area, my spirits finally went down as I found it hard to stay upbeat and positive.

You see I had turned to nature, my garden and walks in the neighborhood to keep my spirits up, but the recent wildfires caused the most unhealthy air in the world, which meant I couldn’t even go outside.

But I am back! Our skies are back to our sunny California blue skies! I am out walking and working in my garden and I am happy to report that despite everything that’s going on around us, the garden is looking beautiful.

Fertilize every month for a spectacular flower show

This year with lots more time on my hands I’ve been tending to my garden, pruning, and fertilizing every 4 weeks. I tell you folks, fertilizing makes a huge difference in the garden’s performance.

I read that Martha Stewart the queen of beautiful gardens fertilizes her garden every 3 weeks with both liquid fertilizer and systemic! I didn’t do it that often, but I did fertilize with a liquid fertilizer more than I have ever done in previous years, and I can tell you that it works!!!

My garden looks like its spring and it’s peak summer!! Look at these roses, you would think this is my spring garden, but they are from my September garden.

Our temperatures are back to our warm sunny 70s and 80s. I expect the garden to continue to bloom for another two months. Will share more photos as autumn approaches and our leaves turn a vibrant yellow and orange.

Below is a look at last year’s fall color. Hope to have a similar fall- showcase this year as well.

Have a fabulous week everyone! I’ll be back later this week with a recipe for a fabulous Mexican chocolate cake.
