New Year’s Eve Conundrum. NYE Celebration at Swati and Tarak’s 2017

Oh the New Year’s Eve conundrum. When we are a family of five with three adults and two kids, deciding on what to do for New Year’s Eve can be a quandary.

When we are a family with younger kids, it’s even harder for parents like ourselves to go off and have a good time while the kids stay back at home, especially on a special day such as New Year’s Eve. After all, it is the start to a new year, fresh beginnings, looking forward to new endeavors. This is the type of occasion one wants to celebrate with loved ones – young kids being in that mix.

We usually want to attend our good friends Van and Ting’s huge annual NYE party. This is a fun NYE party with lots of people, lots of food, lots of dancing, and lots of fun.  We have gone to this annual party previous years – where we dragged the kids with us to join in on the celebrations. But with no company their own age, my kids just sat on the couch looking at their cell phones all night until midnight. I somehow managed to drag them with us for three years in a row. But then this year they rebelled! They absolutely refused to join us. I sadly declined our friends NYE invitation.

This year we were all set to stay home and have a quiet evening on December 31st, when it occurred to me that staying home would make it like any other day, wouldn’t it? Isn’t NYE a special evening? At least that is what all the media hype wants us to believe. So I reached out to our close friends Swati and Tarak who have a daughter our twins age and the three girls love spending time together. Our two families getting together would be a win/win for adults and kids. Swati agreed this was a great idea and decided to take our little NYE party of two families and turn it into a fun evening for a bunch of families with kids. I can honestly say that for the first time in many years, both adults and kids had a great time at a New Year’s Eve party.  We finally found a NYE formula that works for the entire family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 🍾🎆.
