Mango Sorbet with Port

Today I’d like to share a recipe for one of the most unique and delicious desserts I’ve had in a very long time. What makes this dessert so original is that I’ve had port in desserts many times in cakes, tortes, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream, but never with a tropical flavor like mango.

The backstory

I had it at our friend Tracy and Carl’s place when we went over for dinner last weekend. Tracy explained how they discovered this dessert at Thai restaurant Black Pepper in Menlo Park and loved it so much that ever since she has wanted to serve it for dinner and we were the lucky dinner guests.

This combination I have never had before, and let me tell you folks it tastes outstanding. A mango sorbet drenched in port 😋🍨.  This is the type of dessert that has sweet red wine and the tropical flavors of mango sorbet – how unique is this combination?

A Yin and yan dessert

A tropical  mango sorbet with traditional port makes this a yin and and yang type of eclectic dessert . Sweet and tangy mango sorbet goes really well with deep dark port which adds a floral grape flavor and also helps to offset the sweetness of the mango sorbet. Really an awesome combination.

Of course it goes without saying this dessert is for adults and not meant for children, but who says kids can’t have mango sorbet? Just leave out the port when serving this for the kids. Give it a try!
