Hello! Today I’d like to share with you details of my quick visit to Barcelona, Spain earlier this month in June. I joined Hitesh when he went for his business trip and while he was busy, I explored the Gothic Quarter in the city and toured a few beautiful towns outside Barcelona.
Exploring the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona
We were in Barcelona for four days and I was figuring out what I could do on my own while Hitesh was busy. Since I had been to Barcelona before I wasn’t keen on seeing the more popular touristy sites such as Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and Casa Milà.

Instead I strolled the Gothic Quarter and checked out the local boutiques and cafes.

Did you know the Gothic Quarter was traditionally where the working class lived?
While the nobility, businessmen and wealthy lived in the more developed areas of the city, fishermen, maids, and service workers lived in the narrow alleyways of the Gothic Quarter. The small apartments on narrow streets is what they could afford. As recent as a decade ago the Gothic Quarter became gentrified with artists and cafes opening store fronts in this traditionally working class neighborhood.

The Gothic Quarter
If you are heading to Barcelona, strolling the Gothic Quarter is a fabulous way to explore the old town area of the city. Cafes, boutiques and even big chain stores can be found on the narrow Old Town streets of Barcelona.

Montserrat, Girona, and Figueres
On day three and four I went on day trips outside Barcelona to the cities of Montserrat, Girona, and Figueres. Amazing time I had in these off the beaten path excursions outside Barcelona!

I will share more details on these beautiful day trips outside Barcelona soon. However if your time is only in Barcelona strolling the Gothic Quarter is a must do in the city.
