Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, Spain

Folks! I am beyond excited to share with you my visit to this phenomenal Dali museum in Figueres, Spain!!! This is by far the most unique museum I have ever visited in the world! I’ve visited many museums, but this one is in a league of it’s own! Let me share with you more details of my amazing visit to the town of Figueres in Spain to explore the Dalí Theatre-Museum.

Folks this entry sets the stage for what to expect! Which is the unexpected!!!

What’s up with all those eggs on the building 😁🥚🥚🥚??

The craziest entrance to the museum!

The moment I saw this crazy funky sculpture at the entrance I knew I was going to be surprised and delighted.

But nothing, and I mean nothing prepared me for what I saw in this amazing museum!!!!

What I was expecting but instead what I saw – was the pure genius of Salvador Dali’s art in all forms!!!

I was expecting to see a lot of Dali’s surrealistic paintings. But what I saw blew me away in ways that I don’t even know if I can do justice here on my blog!!

Entrance to the Museum

Sculptures in the most fun, complicated, surreal, interpretative, mind blowing pieces of art!

Paintings, drawings, jewelry, and art installments – that’s what got every visitor looking at them in awe, perplexed, thoughtful, and in an appreciative way.

This museum is an upscale sophisticated fun house for the artist in all of us

Um none of us really figured out what the meaning of this sculpture is at the entrance to the museum. Our guide said some think the drops of water on the boat depict tears after Dali’s companion Gala passed away. Others think the car is his fascination with American culture.

The Oscars at the Figueres

The gold idols in the museum depict the Oscars. Since the museum is housed in an old theater, Dali felt it deserved a few Oscars of its own 😄

Why did Dali call his museum the Dali Theater Museum? When he decided to create a museum that housed all his work, he bought an old theater in his home town of Figueres and decided to call it the Dali Theater Museum.

Moving into the grand interior of the museum

The entrance to the museum is a grand atrium showcasing a selection of Dali’s paintings.

This painting was an illusionist’s trick.

When we walked in we were asked to just look at this painting. What we saw was a keliedoscope of images from a naked woman, to a forest, to a beach scene, and a face.

Can you see the naked lady in the pic?

Guess what? We were then asked to take out our camera and then look at that same painting through our camera lens.

What we saw through the lens was a pixelated image of Abraham Lincoln! It seems Dali often used Math to create dual images in his paintings!

Even the views of the atrium from the inside from every floor are engaging and stop you in your tracks – if you bother to look through the window

Dali’s famous self portrait

Don’t you love these paintings! An image within an image

He was an amazing artist by any standard

Dali’s funky sculptures and art installations. Each one more thought provoking than the next

This was one of my favorite art installations! Totally blew me away!

What do you see?

In the same room there was a camel sculpture with a ladder. “What’s this? And why are people waiting in line to climb up the ladder?” is what I wondered. But I blindly just stood in line like everyone else LOL

Through the looking glass 👓

When I got to the top an image of a face emerges!

Even the ceiling had an art installation!

Art suspended from the ceiling walking from one gallery to the next. I missed it the first time I walked by

An artist magician’s installation

Just stairs leading to a gallery of paintings? Nah, there’s more to that.

Make sure to look up and look down! All over the museum there are discoveries to be made.

Look up!

Look down!

What’s up with the dough boys? Nobody knows 😃
