Happy Sunday! Hope you’re having a relaxing weekend. Today I’d like to share pics of our quick trip to Ithaca, New York to see our daughter Rani at her university’s annual fashion show.
Snowy, Chilly, Rainy weekend in Ithaca
Snowy, chilly, and rain awaited us in upstate New York when we visited our daughter last weekend. We arrived to snowy roads and sidewalks, that gave way to a rainy weekend in Ithaca.
Chili Cook Off in Downtown Ithaca
But the rain and cold couldn’t deter locals from partaking of delicious chili at Ithaca Downtown’s Chili Cook Off on Saturday afternoon. People were out in the cold and rain with coats and umbrellas to attend this fair ☔️🧥!
Folks! Back in California this fair would be empty of people if it was raining 🤣☔️ 😁! But here in Ithaca, the fair was busy with loads of people all partaking of samples of warm chili 🍲. I had this vegan chili made with navy beans and tomatillo sauce that was outstanding 😋.
Cornell Fashion Runway Show Saturday Evening
Saturday evening we attended Cornell’s Fashion Runway Show where Rani was presenting her own collection of designs. It was so well organized and orchestrated. The event was beyond anything we expected, it was amazing!
Cider tasting, lunch and exploring the waterfalls of Ithaca
On Sunday we welcomed cloudy skies with bursts of sunshine and no rain 😃. After breakfast of delicious bagel sandwich and coffee at Hound and Mare we drove to Finger Lakes Cider House for cider tasting and lunch of butternut squash soup and salad.
The waterfalls of Ithaca
Ithaca is a city of waterfalls. So many waterfalls in this area that it’s hard to see them all on one afternoon. But we did manage to see two beautiful waterfalls on our way back from lunch.
First stop, the beautiful Taughanock Falls
Taughanock Falls can be seen right off the road as you drive towards Downtown Ithaca. We stopped off at the state park to take a few quick pics as it was cold and we wanted to get back in our warm car 😳🌦.
Second stop, the roaring Ithaca Falls
Folks, this spectacular falls was LOUD and gushing with water and the funniest thing? This stunning waterfall is right smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood!

Dinner Sunday evening at Simeans after which Rani slept in our hotel room for the night. Monday morning back to school for Rani and a morning flight home for us back to California. That’s a look at our short winter weekend visit to Ithaca, New York. A fun quick excursion to see our daughter Rani at university 💕.

You were up close and personal with the waterfalls😂. I don’t think we’d have that in California without railings and caution signs. So pretty!
Winter has indeed return as it does in the northeast in March. It seems like there is always a chili cook-off!
Very interesting Dorothy the cultural differences in each part of the country 😊 chili cookoff in winter is a novelty here 😁, it was fun to see it in chilly Ithaca 😋.
