Called the Entertainer’s Garden, this little backyard on the Gamble Garden Spring Tour was transformed into a haven for entertaining outdoors.

This garden was all about maximizing space for entertaining and what a phenomenal design this one is.
The Entertainer’s Garden. Pool, patio, outdoor bar, outdoor kitchen, dining space, and lounge chairs.

A modest sized pool, a patio connected to the family room, a large seating area adjacent to an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor bar that also dubbed as a guest house, and plenty of sofas and lounge chairs surrounding the garden, this garden really had seats for everyone at the party.

This little garden had seating for fifty plus guests. An impressive feat considering how small the back yard was.

Low maintenance garden with drought tolerant hardy plants
With minimal flowering plants, this garden was designed with low-maintenance in mind. Rosemary, euphorbia, catmint, lavenders, succulents, and ornamental grasses strategically placed created a soothing green palette for this minimalist garden.

Trees for light shade and structure
Maple trees and olive trees created structure and also provided dappled shade in this sunny gardenscape.

The garden bench
Any garden no matter the size must have a garden bench. It is a garden after all and meant to be seated in to enjoy nature in our own private oasis.

Cool takeaways from this little garden
A garden can look just as beautiful without flowering plants. Strategically planted trees interspersed with low maintenance perennials and ornamental grasses can create a beautiful outdoor space to lounge and relax in.

We usually think that we need more space for an outdoor kitchen or a pool. But this garden proves that even small spaces can have these luxuries such as a pool, outdoor kitchen, and even a bar. Its prioritizing hardscape over a lawn and large planting areas.

There is beauty in the simplicity of green in the landscape. What I loved about this garden is how pleasing all the plantings were despite its lack of floral color. With so many textures and shapes available in choosing green non flowering plants, when done right they create a pleasing palette in the garden.

I hope you enjoyed a look at this charming entertainer’s garden in Old Palo Alto, California. This little garden showed us that it doesn’t take a lot of space to create the oasis of our dreams.
