Today I’d like to share with you pics of The Rose Garden on the Gamble Garden Spring Tour 2025. It was called The Rose Garden because of its impressive display of roses in the front yard.

I visited this garden as part of the Gamble Garden Spring Tour with my daughter Sri, who’s become an avid gardener. We are always looking for new ideas for our own gardens.

Creative use of ground cover
I’ve usually seen perennials planted with roses such as daylilies, foxgloves, and other cottage garden flora. But here ground cover was used as a no fuss underplanting for the rose bushes. It was such an interesting use of ground cover which is also low maintenance.

Benches and pathways to sit among nature
A bench is a must in any home garden. A place to sit and enjoy the beauty of nature around. In this garden a bench was strategically placed among the roses with a meandering pathway to lead you to it and to also admire and smell the roses in the front yard.

Half and Half
What I found interesting is that one half of the front yard was in full sun which is where the rose garden was thriving. The other side of the front door was in full shade where all shade loving plants such as azaleas were thriving under a canopy of of Japanese maple trees. Two totally different gardens in one space separated by the walkway to the front door. It somehow worked.

Inside the garden gate
Inside the garden gate in the backyard was a more subdued style of gardening with mostly succulents and ornamental grasses accented with hardy flowering bushes such as salvias, sage, and rosemary.

A room for the veggies
To prevent critters from eating the hard working veggie garden the raised beds were higher than normal, almost three feet tall. These raised beds were also protected by a walk-in mesh cage complete with a door to enter.

Few cool Ideas from this garden
If you’re looking for a no fuss underplanting for rose bushes, try using ground cover for a carpet of green.

We don’t have to plant the same type of plants all over the garden especially if there is a natural separation like a walkway. One side of the walkway is sunny? Go ahead and plant sun loving plants. The other side of the walkway is shady? Go ahead and plant shade loving plants that will thrive. The walkway creates a natural separation in the garden between these two areas.

Want a veggie garden but afraid all your hard work will be for naught. Try building taller than usual raised beds for your veggies. It makes it harder for the squirrels and critters to climb into the boxes. And if you have the budget and know how go a step further and build an out door “room” that will protect the veggie planters.

That’s a look at the “Rose Garden Home” on our Spring Tour. I hope you garnered some fun ideas to incorporate into your own home garden this summer 🌹.

Have a fabulous day!
