Happy Friday! I hope you had a good week and are looking forward to fabulous weekend! Today I’d like to share pictures of this charming cottage style garden we toured as part the Gamble Garden Spring Tour.

Ultimate cottage garden flora
This garden was charming as heck. The front yard was overflowing with flowers, and I mean no green bushes in sight, just flowers. Rose bushes underplanted with with salvias, dianthus, foxgloves, geraniums and azaleas which were all in bloom this spring.

The meandering walkway
Strategically planned walkway lead guests through this floral front yard to the backyard garden also brimming with roses and flora.

The garden bench!
A must have in any garden- a garden bench! 🥰. A place to relax and muse on the day in nature.

The shady garden
The shady garden complete with shade loving plants such as azaleas, hydrangeas, and elegant dogwood and maple trees.

Cool ideas from this garden
Roses! Folks, roses are phenomenal hard working plants. The flowers they produce all season long and all they need is a pruning of the dead flowers and they continue to bloom. The best part? They come in thousands of color combinations and styles.

Any low growing plant can make a great underplanting for roses. Rose bushes grow tall providing shade for plants below. I don’t know of any plant that doesn’t love shade.

Garden bench and meandering walkways make for the ultimate cottage garden delight.

Don’t feel the need to plant the same plantings all over the garden. Pick plants that thrive in their light requirements. Have a shady area in the garden? Shady gardens love azaleas, hydrangeas, dogwood trees and maples. Have lots of sun? Try planting roses, salvias, ornamental grasses and perennials.

A charming cottage garden in the heart of the city, really a treat for the senses.
I hope you enjoyed a look at this charming cottage garden in Old Palo Alto, California. Spring is a great time to visit gardens in your area – be it public gardens or private homes like your friends and families.

Happy Friday!
Have a fabulous weekend!
