March in Berlin. Strolling the Historic District, Boat Ride in the City and Day Trip to Potsdam

Back in March Hitesh had a company event in Berlin, Germany and asked if I wanted to tag along. I’ve been to Berlin before and I’ve seen most of the historic sites there, but the thought of a few days away from the routine of home sounded like a nice respite in mid March. I went knowing that Berlin was going to be cold 🧤, it was still winter after all 🥶.

Walking the historic area of Berlin

Since Hitesh was busy with work I was on my own for a few days. I wanted to check out the museums on Museum Island but they are closed on Mondays. Instead I just walked and walked and strolled past historic sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, the Memorial to the Roma people of Europe and the Reichstag building.

Reichstag

The Reichstag is a historic government building that is the seat of the German Bundestag since 1999. During WWII this was also the government seat of the the Nazi regime. This building is beautiful and a central part of Berlin.

I took a chance and asked the ticket office if I could get a ticket to see the Reichstag building that same day and was able to snag one to go to the top. From here you can see the city including the canals close by and the Brandenburg Gate.

To see the government chambers inside the building tickets have to be bought in advance. These tickets are popular and get sold out months in advance.

Coffee shops and Canals

After the Reichstag I stopped at a coffee and pastry shop.

I walked past canals and enjoyed a beautiful cool afternoon.

Speaking of canals and lakes, did you know Berlin has over one hundred canals and lakes in the city!

Came across the most beautiful pastry and cake shops on my walks.

Teddy Bear Tea Party

Walked past local shops like this jeweler who had a tea party display with teddy bears!

I was getting more exercise than I would ever get back home. I clocked 20,000 steps each day in Berlin!

Day Trip to Potsdam

On the second day I booked myself on a tour bus to the quaint town of Potsdam about an hour outside Berlin. Here I saw the historic Potsdam University and the famed Succinic Palace of Fredrick the Great.

Boat ride in the city

On the last day in Berlin, we went on a boat ride on the canals as we sailed past historic buildings and enjoyed a sunny beautiful morning.

That’s a look at my quick trip to Berlin in sunny, cool March.

Happy Sunday!

  1. I love the Teddy Bears. I wonder if they were Steiff Teddy Bears. They are the original teddy bears and from Germany. Your pictures are great!
