Holiday Lunch with the Girls and Gals 2017

I had my annual holiday lunch with two of my dear friends and my twin girls earlier this week.  A wonderful happy lunch with four of my favorite people. When we get together it’s like a girls party with delicious vegetarian food and sweet sweets. When the five of us get together we fit like a glove – we all get along wonderfully and enjoy each other’s company perfectly – despite our drastic differences in age – 70, 50s and 15!

I found this great article titled In praise of the age-gap friendship: Why everyone should be mates with someone of a different age. that describes our relationship perfectly.

“Just like any other friendship, a great age-gap friendship is about the people involved – and all their wonderful qualities outside of their age.

While friends of the same age will share a bunch of life experiences, interests, and views in common, ruling out potential friends because they’re a little older or younger means we’re missing out on hearing different perspectives, gaining wisdom, and the general joy of having a beautiful friendship that improves ourselves and our lives.”

The article goes on to explain how a group of friends of different ages can benefit each other in so many wonderful ways. For example, an older friend can take on an advising role as they have experienced much more in life and can provide guidance on many of life’s challenges. While a younger friend meanwhile can expose us to cool new experiences, make us feel young and energetic, and maybe even change our views on issues in the world.

If you are wondering how my twins became friends with Rose and Devi, coincidentally every time I had Devi and Rose over for lunch my twins were home from school for some holiday or another, which meant they would join us. Over the years Rose and Devi have seen the twins grow up, and the twins now affectionately call them Rose Aunty and Devi Teacher.  Devi Teacher to my twins because Devi used to be their preschool teacher!

Always a fun afternoon with these gals and I always amazes me how we can all chat on varied topics for hours.  On this afternoon Devi had brought her signature idlis and coconut chutney, Rose her dessert, and I made a mildly spiced lentil soup called rasam. Here are a few pics of our holiday lunch with my “age-gap friends” 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Rose asked the girls what they would like for dessert and the twins requested cinnamon rolls, and Rose actually made them! With caramel sauce instead of icing 😋.

When Sri my eldest came home and saw these cinnamon rolls her reaction was “OMG! Did Rose Aunty make these? Do the twins know how much work it is to make them? I got the recipe from her and I know!”  Then to prove to me how complicated this recipe is she showed me the recipe 😀!

I think Rose is competing with me for who can do the best gift wrap! 😐 I think she is doing great 😀.
