Rhys Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Skyline Blvd.

Happy weekend! I hope you had a good week and looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Today I’d like to share with you our leisurely visit to a winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains off Skyline Blvd.

Skyline Blvd

Skyline Blvd runs through and over the Santa Cruz Mountains all the way from Santa Cruz to up North to Palo Alto. A winding road that meanders and curves through the hills and over the mountains, this road is for those folks who like a scenic drive. Surprisingly the road is busy with mountain bikes, cars, and motorcycles all taking the crazy curves with great thrill seeking delight. Our dive on the other hand was more leisurely as we enjoyed the scenic road of mountains and valleys up to Rhys Winery.

Rhys Winery

Situated way up in the Santa Cruz Mountains off Skyline Blvd. is a secluded winery call Rhys. With spectacular views of the Santa Cruz Mountains the winery is beautiful and peaceful.

The tasting room

The tasting room is artfully appointed like a family room where one can relax and taste a wide selection of local wines produced by Rhys.

We can even stroll out onto the balcony and enjoy the beautiful views with a sip.

The wine caves

The wine caves at the winery are the pride and joy of Rhys. A massive cave with multiple alleys to house the over 100,000 bottles that are produced each year from Vineyards all over California. In these caves wine is crushed, barreled and stored until ready to be bottled.

Even today some grapes are crushed by foot, by stomping on them, which are done in stainless steal barrels the size of which are just big enough to fit a person. There is even a ladder next to the barrel to make it easy to get into the barrel!

A leisurely drive on a scenic road, wine tasting at a secluded winery, with spectacular views of mountains beyond, it can all make for the perfect relaxing day 🍷🥰.
