Pickled Onions

My friend Rose brought a delicious herb and radish salad with pickled onions when she stopped by for lunch back in early July.  This salad was outstanding. What added an unexpected flavor to the salad was the pickled onions. Rose said she had made the pickled onions at home. When I asked her if they were hard to make, she said the recipe was super easy and shared it with me. I gave it a try, and she was right! For the gourmet taste and look of these delicious pickled onions, they were surprisingly simple to make and took just 5- 10 minutes to pull together. Here is the link to the recipe from blog web site  Photos by Chris Cockren for Shared Appetite. Easy Pickled Onions

Pickled Onions

  • 1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Kosher salt

Below are some pictures of how my pickled onions turned out.

For some fun I also made a jar of pickled onions with red chilies and toasted coriander seeds.  These coriander pickled onions taste even better than the original! Toasted coriander seeds add a nice dimension to the onions and make them taste less vinegary.

To add a tangy and sweet punch to any dish these homemade pickled onions are the perfect condiment.

Try making these outstanding pickled onions for a delicious sweet and sour flavor boost to anything from sandwiches to burritos, and for salads. For detailed instructions on how to make pickled onions check out the web site Photos by Chris Cockren for Shared Appetite. Pickled Onions.

  1. Never knew how easy it was to make pickled onions! I am sure it will taste good in many dishes. Especially burritos.

    1. These pickled onions are very easy to make, just one thing it is very vinegary, that’s why I added chilli and corriander seeds. They are so good that my family was just eating them right out of the jar!
