Mombasa Vibes. Hanging out with the Family 💙

Hello and Happy Friday! I hope you had a good week and ready for the weekend. Today, I’d like to share pics from our recent visit to Mombasa, Kenya to visit with the family.

Hot, humid, balmy, rainy Mombasa

We just returned from a visit to Mombasa, Kenya to see Hitesh’s family, it’s been over a year since we saw them and it was time to go back for a quick visit. A balmy, hot, humid, and rainy Mombasa awaited us this time.

Bursts of sunshine interspersed with rain and cloudy skies

Typical tropical weather is what we experienced in Mombasa in April. Sunny skies would turn dark and cloudy with bursts of tropical showers. Some of the rain was intense! Roads would get flooded briefly for a few hours.

Rain pouring down 🌧

When it rained, it rained buckets of water!

As you can imagine no beach visits this time

But we did get to relax at home with delicious food prepared by sis-in-law Deepa, and bummed under the warm breeze of the fans in our apartment. Little visits to the coffee shop and the farmer’s market made it a truly relaxing time in Mombasa 💕.

Kenya is on the Equator, you know what that means?

Kenya is on the Equator which means they get exactly 12 hours of daylight, and 12 hours of nighttime, all year round. There are no seasons here. Just rainy season and normal season. It’s dawn by 5am followed by sunrise at 6am, and pitch black by 6pm.

Folks, the rooster starts crowing at 4:45am every morning!

I couldn’t get my 6-7 hours of sleep because the rooster would start crowing at 4:30am because signs of sunshine are peaking through already! And he would continue on for almost an hour until 5:30am when he saw the sun almost come up, and then he would stop.

I woke up every morning at 4:30am and then went back to sleep at 6am when the rooster stopped crowing, then slept until 7:30am. A girls needs her sleep 😴.

That’s a look at our brief visit to Mombasa, Kenya this year

A special thanks goes out to my sis-in-law Deepa and brother-in-law Amar for making our stay so comfortable and free of any thoughts of chores or work 💕.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

  1. I always enjoy your travels. You do a great job showing the places, foods and glimpses of cultures.
My travel experience is limited, so I find this fascinating.
You have a lovely family. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment ❤️!!! I am so happy you are enjoying my travel logs and getting a glimpse into life in other countries and cultures. Aside from the touristy sites we do like to seek out local markets and neighborhoods to get a glimpse into the local culture – this is always the best part of any of out trips. So happy to know that you are finding my humble travel stories enjoyable ❤️
