Every time we travel to Kenya to visit Hitesh’s family, I would stop by the Kazuri boutique in Nairobi and pick up a bracelet. I have been buying Kazuri bead jewelry for over two decades now, and even today, when I wear those bracelets I get compliments on them. They are timeless pieces. I bought these clay-fired jewelry for their beauty, but what really drew me to this unique jewelry boutique is their business philosophy. Even before fair trade practices became fashionable, and even before empowering women in developing countries became a trend, Kazuri Beads has been providing gainful employment to single women in Kenya for over 30 years now. Visit to The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya

Folks, this has to be one of the most heart-warming and the most impactful excursions during our trip to Kenya this past summer. Every time we visit Kenya we always make it a point to stop by The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in the Karen neighborhood of Nairobi. And this visit was just as memorable as our previous ones.

Visit to Kenya. A Jewel in East Africa

After a six-year hiatus, we made a trip back to Kenya this past August for a two-week holiday to visit Hitesh’s family in Mombasa, Kenya. In previous years they visited us here in California, and now it was our turn to go see them.

Many times when I tell friends and family I am going to Kenya, the first question I am asked is, “Is it safe to go to Kenya?”  The other questions I get asked are “Where is Kenya vis-à-vis the rest of Africa?”  “What is the weather like?”  “When is the best time to go?” “What is the political climate like?”  So I thought I would take this opportunity to answer a few of these questions before telling you about my trip this past summer to Kenya and all the wonderful places we visited.
