American Writers Museum in Chicago, Illinois is a totally unique and interactive museum exclusively focused on American writers. To be honest, this museum was a discovery of Anjali who loves to read. Of all the sites to see in Chicago’s visitors guide, her number one request was this one. Boy are we glad we fulfilled her wish because this was the highlight of our trip to Chicago. Spring Break 2018. 2 days in Chicago, 5 days in Austin
The twins had their Spring Break last week and for a couple of months now we have been wondering what to do this holiday break. Most of the country as you know is COLD ❄️🌨☃️! We Californians don’t like the cold much – at least our family doesn’t. We were in a dilemma as to where to go for this spring break. So why Chicago and why Austin you wonder? Well, Chicago came about as our destination because of Rani. Rani plays cello in her school orchestra and they were participating in an International Music Festival in Chicago at the beginning of their spring break. Drive Through Blossom Trail in Fresno County, California
Blossom Trail is an area in Fresno County’s farm land where thousands of stone fruit trees such as peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots are grown in addition to almond and walnut trees. I’ve wanted to check out Blossom Trail for over two years now. I finally made it out there this past President’s day weekend with the family!

When my daughter Sri went to Bangalore, India to attend her friend’s wedding recently she asked me what I wanted from there, “Mom, what can I get you from India? Do you want a sari? An Indian outfit?” I told Sri all I wanted were some bangles. Really pretty bangles.

Quintessential California. The Mission Architecture
Living in California, one can’t help but fall in love with Mission architecture of this area. The white stuccoed walls with red tiled roofs, ornate ironwork, and colorful Mexican hand-painted tiles; these are such lovely characteristics of a warm and inviting architecture. When you combine this style of architecture with the almost all year California sunshine, blue Pacific Ocean, and the rolling hills and mountains that abound here, sometimes one can forget this is America, but rather it can feel like we are in Spain or in the Mediterranean somewhere.
