Georgina’s Maltese Easter Figolli

The Bay Area is a great place to live.  A true representation of what America is today – a melting pot of various cultures, languages, and religions.  Where else could I have such a wonderful group of friends from such places like Ghana, Philippines, Japan, China, Ireland, Vietnam, England,  Iran, Fiji,  Russia, Kenya, all corners of India, Eastern Europe, and Malta.  Which brings me to the topic of this post; Georgina’s Maltese Easter figolli.

Spring Greens Salad with Pears, Walnuts, and Gorgonzola.

IMG_6748

Here is a salad that looks and tastes like a gourmet salad you might order at a fancy restaurant.  A nice juicy pear is delicious in this salad, and a good Gorgonzola cheese or bleu cheese really gives the entire salad a kick of sophistication. You can pick up a small tub of Gorgonzola cheese from Trader Joe’s, Safeway, Lucky, Whole Foods, or any grocery store. Continue reading Spring Greens Salad with Pears, Walnuts, and Gorgonzola.

Flowering Fruit Trees

What is really beautiful about fruit trees and many times overlooked is their spectacular flower show in the Spring. Every fruit tree bears beautiful flowers before they become fruit.  When these fruit trees are in bloom they rival any sought after Spring Cherry Blossom trees.  Peach and nectarine trees have gorgeous flowers in a dark shade of pink. Cherry, plum, and apricot trees have mauve pink flowers as well.  Apple trees bear sultry pale pink/cream colored flowers with a darker pink center.  Even orange and lemon trees have lovely little clusters of white flowers whose intoxicating fragrance wafts through any garden. Roasted Garlic with Crusty Baguette

Living in the Bay Area so close to Gilroy, you can’t help but grow to love garlic.  Gilroy is the self proclaimed Garlic Capital of the world.  That’s all they do here, grow garlic. In fact, when you drive past Gilroy you can smell garlic for a few miles as the garlic farms are in abundance here.  To pay homage to it’s” bread and butter” crop, Gilroy hosts an annual Gilroy Garlic Festival in the summer where everything sold is made with garlic.  They even sell their famous Garlic ice cream!  Roasted garlic is a popular item around here.   Continue reading Roasted Garlic with Crusty Baguette

Celebrating the Twins Birthday at Daffodil Dreams At Filoli Gardens

Aah celebrating birthdays.  These days it seems each kid wants to do something unique and with so many kids it can be hard to do something totally original. That is the dilemma the twins were facing, what to do for their 14th birthday.  Around this time is when I got a very timely newsletter from Filoli Gardens announcing their Daffodil Daydreams!  A totally unique experience with hundreds and hundreds of daffodils in full bloom, what an awesome idea for a birthday event!  Continue reading Celebrating the Twins Birthday at Daffodil Dreams At Filoli Gardens

Philz Coffee

A new coffee shop called Philz Coffee opened here in Los Gatos.  It was an instant over night success. I hadn’t heard of it myself but apparently a lot of people already knew about this coffee chain from their other locations in the Bay Area. What’s so special about Philz Coffee?  This is not your run of the mill coffee joint, no; this is a specialty coffee shop that doesn’t sell any espresso drinks, none. No lattes, cappuccinos, no latte macchiato, café Americano, no espresso drinks of any kind.   Continue reading Philz Coffee

Visit to Dallas, Texas. Twins Meeting Twins

Remember that television show Dallas in the 80s? We were all hooked on that family soap opera, heck the whole country, even the world was hooked on it!  The story of a wealthy oil family in Dallas and all their family drama with adultery, betrayal, bastard sons, and the one rival they are always fighting against. It had beautiful actors and actresses with great outfits and grand Texas scenery, it had everything a great soap opera needs to be successful. Remember that episode Who Shot JR? The whole country eagerly waited to watch that episode, which at that time became the all time most watched television episode ever! But wait, I digress.  That’s not what this post is about. I wanted to tell you about my recent visit to Dallas, the city in Texas – not the show Dallas. Continue reading Visit to Dallas, Texas. Chocolat the Movie

I watched this movie on Valentine’s Day with the family.  After a scrumptious Valentine’s Day dinner I convinced the whole family to watch Chocolat with me. I had seen it years ago when it first came out and fell in love with it!  I had forgotten about the movie until recently when I was making decadent hot chocolate from scratch at home.  As I was stirring the dense creamy chocolate into the milk and adding cream, and vanilla; my memories of the movie Chocolat came back to me with a smile as I remembered Juliette Binoche doing the same thing in that movie – stirring creamy hot chocolate to serve to her customers.
